What is "Dual Language?"
The Dual Language Academy is a choice program offered to all incoming kindergarten students. Students in the Dual Language Academy will have the opportunity to learn the district's kindergarten curriculum in both English and Spanish. Students will spend equal amounts of time during the school year learning the content area in both languages.
Definición de Dos Idiomas
La participación en la Academia de Dos Idiomas es voluntaria y ofrecida a todos los estudiantes entrantes al jardín de la infancia. Estudiantes en la Académica de Dos Idiomas tendrán la oportunidad de aprender el plan de estudios del jardín de la infancia en ingles y español. Durante el año escolar, los estudiantes compartirán la misma cantidad de tiempo aprendiendo el contenido en ambos idiomas: ingles y español.
Dual Language Academy Goals
The major goals for the students enrolled in the Dixson Dual Language Academy are to:
- attain high levels of academic achievement in all subject areas;
- develop proficiency and literacy in English and Spanish; and
- grow into bilingual, multicultural, life-long learners.

Los objetivos principales en la Academia de Dos Idiomas en Dixson son:
- los estudiantes cumplirán y excederán los niveles exigidos en todas las áreas del contenido;
- los estudiantes desarrollarán sus aptitudes en los dos idiomas: inglés y español;
- y demostrarán un positivo intercambio cultural de actitudes y comportamiento que les ayudarán a funcionar en nuestra sociedad global.

- Promotes positive interactions between English and Spanish speaking students through cooperative learning opportunities

Program Highlights
- Classes will include native English-speaking students and Spanish-speaking students
- Two teachers working in the academy, one of whom will be fluent in both English and Spanish

Selection Process
Parents of incoming kindergarten students who would like to have their children considered for the Dual Language Academy must complete an application. A lottery system will be held to determine program participants and a wait list will be created.

Los padres de estudiantes entrantes al jardín de infancia que desean tener sus niños considerados para la Academia de Dos Idiomas, deben de aplicar. Un sistema de lotería será utilizado para determinar los participantes del programa y una lista de espera será creada.
