FIRST Lego League 2010

Alice E. Grady's robotics team, The RoboRaiders, competed in a FIRST Lego League Qualifying Tournament Saturday, January 30th, 2010. What made this year's event so exciting is that not only did Grady have a team compete in the tournament, but the entire event took place at Grady School! The Alice E. Grady Elementary School Gymnasium was host to ten robotics teams from Westchester and Rockland Counties. Each team was judged in four categories: Team Work, Research Project, Robot Design, and Robot Performance. The RoboRaiders, and their coach, Dr. Davis received one of the highest scores in the teamwork category and learned a lot from judges, and other teams that will help our team in the other categories next year.

FIRST is an international organization that holds robotic contests for "student athletes to exercise the muscle between their ears." In FIRST Lego League teams, of up to 10 students ages 9-14, work with coaches and mentors to complete research projects and robotic missions based on a yearly science-based theme. This year's theme Smart Move, centered around moving people and things safely and efficiently.
