A message from our Assistant Superintendent for Instruction & PPS
Welcome to the Instruction and Pupil Personnel Services page of the Elmsford Union Free School District website.
The Elmsford Union Free School District provides each student with a high quality core curriculum in English language arts, mathematics, science, social studies, languages other than English (LOTE), as well as a multitude of other learning experiences in physical education, health, art, music, and technology. The Office of Instruction and Pupil Personnel Services oversees that the New York State Standards are accessible to all students in the district.
The Office of Instruction responsibility is to coordinate and align curriculum to improve student achievement throughout the district Prek-12. Elmsford teachers, support staff, and administrators are all committed to preparing our children to achieve at the highest levels to meet the challenges of the 21st century. Each curricular area has identified standards for learning that guide classroom instruction and assessment. The Common Core Learning Standards, adopted by the New York State Board of Regents on January 11, 2011, articulate the skills, knowledge and essential understandings that all students need in order to be prepared for college and career readiness. Student performance towards these standards are measured by classroom assessments and state assessments, such as the New York State English Language Assessments and Math Assessments at grades 3-8 and the New York State Regents Assessments in grades 9-12.
The Office of Pupil Personnel Services is responsible for the implementation of laws and regulations concerning Special Education and English Language Learners. In order to meet the diverse learning needs of our students, the district offers programs that include special education services for identified learners, English as a second language for English language learners, guidance and counseling services, nursing and health services, speech/language services, occupational and physical therapy. This office monitors the implementation of procedures to support 'at risk' students and to identify students eligible for special education and /or related services.
The Elmsford Union Free School District has built a strong partnership with the community. This on-going collaboration and support is extremely important to the success of our programs. Input from our parents and community members are encouraged, appreciated and necessary for our district to continue to grow.
